Carlisle Beef Shorthorns peak at 4,800gns
Beef Shorthorns met a solid trade selling to a peak of 4,800gns at the breed society’s official spring sale in Carlisle on Friday 27 May.
Leader at 4,800gns was Hurricane of Ballyvaddy TI +19, SRI +17, a red and white 20 month old by Chapelton Typhoon from T and K Madden, Glencloy, Ballymena. The buyer was RF Leach, Warmington, Banbury.
Next at 4,400gns was the red two year old Balgay Halbarad TI +32, SRI +29, a Chapelton Winsome son from Balgay Farm, Inchture, Perth to Cnewr Estate, Sennybridge, Brecon.
Balgay offered two more, two year old entries, each shared a 4,000gns price tag and both were by the 13,000gns Chapelton Braveheart. First to go was the red Balgay Hill TI +20, SRI +9 to RK and M Mainwaring, Ellesmere Shropshire. The second 4,000gns bid was made by James Hopper, Harpham, Driffield for the day’s champion, the roan Balgay Hidden Land TI +21, SRI +10.
A bid of 4,200gns secured the 7,500gns Stonehills X Factor sired Chapelton Hope TI +23, SRI +12 for A and F Sken, Glenesk, Angus. A dark roan two year old, he was bred and exhibited by Donald Biggar, Castle Douglas.
Blelack Magnum TI +13, SRI +11 commanded the day’s third 4,000gns call for Neil Massie and Sons, Aboyne. A rising two year old roan, he was by the 12,000gns Royal Highland champion, Meonhill Highland Centurion and sold to T MacMillan, Rothesay, Isle of Bute.
Later in the day, Mr MacMillan paid 2,000gns for the two year old roan Millerstein Einstein daughter, Millerston Gretta Honey TI +8, SRI +6 from Jack Ramsay, Mauchline.
Another roan Centurion son from the Massies, this time the two year old Blelack Martian TI +14, SRI +13 made 3,200gns to GC Howatson and Sons, Corrie, Lockerbie.
Burnfoot Herald TI +10, SRI +15, a two year old roan by Tofts Barometer from H and N Sloan, Oxton, Lauder made 3,800gns to WSL Muir, Stromness, Orkney.
The female trade was led at 2,800gns twice. First in the ring was Chapelton Zola TI +15, SRI +17, a dark roan two year old heifer by the 6,800gns Glenisla Banquo from Donald Biggar to GS and GI Pettit, Gordon, Buckie.
Amongst Mr Biggar’s other entries were two, two year old roan Stonehills X Factor daughters. First at 2,200gns was Chapelton Veronica to D Nesbitt, Wasdale, Seascale who went on to secure four more entries. Chapelton Honeysuckle TI +22, SRI +16 made 2,000gns to RJ and N Edwards and Sons, Ceiriog, Llangollen.
The day’s second 2,800gns call was made by RG and HE Thompson, Sneaton, Whitby for the female champion,Oakleigh Honey, a two year old roan by Blelack Masterpiece from P Turnbull, Kildale, Whitby.
A and C Ivinson, Ousby, Penrith offered Sandwick Fellside Gypsy, a four year old red and white by Redhill Challenger with her six month old heifer Sandwick Gypsy Jinglebell by Stonehills White Warrior. The pair made 2,300gns to I Potts, Hedley, Stocksfield.
