As dairy farmers increasingly recognise the benefits of New Zealand management systems, LIC (Livestock Improvement Corporation) has grown its UK base significantly and will have a strong presence at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show.

All visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to win a £500 plate meter, which offers the chance to significantly improve pasture use efficiency.

Plate Meter

LIC are offering a chance to win a plate meter at this years Royal Cornwall Show on 7-9 June (Stand 717).

Volatile milk prices in the UK have forced dairy farmers to review their farming systems, and many now recognise the financial benefits of improving milk from grass,” Piers Badnell, LIC Pasture to Profit consultant. “However, to be most effective this requires careful grassland management and breeding an animal that will utilise that grass efficiently.

“This is something New Zealand farmers have been modifying and improving for many years, and now UK farmers can benefit from their experience and improve farm profitability.

“LIC offers an integrated approach to this system, with grassland consultancy, pasture tools, and specialist genetics all working to support UK farmers improved farm efficiencies. We understand the need to re-evaluate UK grass management and have expertise to guide farmers through the transition to grass focussed production.

“Genetic gain also presents a huge opportunity to many dairy farmers and making every cow in your herd as profitable as possible. The fundamentals of herd improvement are good fertility, choosing the right bulls and breeding from the best. Together, with the right nutrition, this will result in a much more robust national herd.”

The LIC team will be available at stand 717 to discuss herd management and offer you the chance to enter the competition.
