Sprays and Sprayers put to the test at Cereals 2018
Crop protection and chemical usage is a hot topic at the moment, with pressure mounting on farmers to be more precise with applications – for both environmental and financial reasons.
However, with technological advancements happening at an equally fast pace, it’s easy to get lost in the plethora of sprayer technology available on the market – and it can be even harder to make a decision without seeing the kit in action.
Profiling the most up-to-date application technology, the Syngenta Sprays & Sprayers Arena will feature again at this year’s Cereals event. The latest sprayers on the market will be put through their paces in live demonstrations throughout both days, giving visitors the opportunity to talk directly to manufacturers and compare new products and services. “The Syngenta Sprays and Sprayers Arena is a great opportunity to see the latest technology on offer, and novel innovations to ensure crop protection products are applied correctly and safely,” says Cat Gray, Syngenta. “Throughout the two days, Syngenta Application Experts will be carrying out informative, live demonstrations of how to get the best from your sprayer.”
The arena is set to put 40 of the latest sprayers to test – showing visitors what’s on the market to help them improve efficiency and reduce costs. Below is a flavour of just some of the kit that visitors will see in action at this year’s Cereals Event (13-14 June).
Amazone
Amazone will be debuting one of its latest additions; The UX 01. The sprayer is available in 4,200, 5,200 and 6,200litre tank sizes - designed with a low centre of gravity - and the underbelly is completely smooth to prevent crop damage. It is also shaped to offer surge-free operation for safety on the road and stability in the field. The new 28° steering axle provides the tightest of turns for use in row crops and potatoes. Load-sensing anti-lock brakes come as part of the package and the sprayer is kept in the tractor track by the automatic hillside compensating AutoTrail system.
Also in the ring will be the new UF 02 mounted sprayer which was launched earlier this year.
Bateman
Bateman will be demonstrating four sprayers in the arena, one from each of its ranges - RB17, RB26, RB35 and RB55.
The RB17 range boasts a 2,500-litre stainless steel tank – with a 3,000-litre option – and an 18m to 24m standard Contour boom. At the opposite end of the range, the RB55 has a much larger capacity at 5,000 litres with twin front and rear clean water rinse tanks. The sprayer features a 24-42m Variable Geometry boom and John Deere 275hp engine, as well as field and road mode, cruise control and all round dynamic braking.
Fendt
Fendt will be putting its Rogator RG600 to the test at this year’s event.
The self-propelled sprayer features a 3,800, 5,000 or 6,000-litre tank as well as a 500-litre clean water tank. It boasts a low centre of gravity and a smooth undercarriage - with up to 120cm ground clearance for maximum plant protection - as well as a category 4 certified cab with maximum legroom for driver comfort.
Househam Sprayers
Househam Sprayers will be demonstrating a number of new self-propelled sprayers at this year’s event, including the 230hp model of the Predator. The sprayer boasts a 5,000-litre stainless steel spray tank and 36m tri-fold boom. Weighing just 10,440kg (unladen) it’s a very light piece of kit and will be joined alongside the recently updated Spirit sprayer – as well as a special new announcement set to be unveiled on the day.
Househam’s latest innovations include a level 4 filtration system in the cab, Individual Nozzle Control, Auto Nozzle Select and Househam’s Total Machine Control V5 Controller with FieldMaster GPS mapping and guidance. “We’ll be demonstrating in the arena to show farmers the technology and efficiency of our future-proofed machinery,” says Robert Willey, managing director at Househam. “We’re excited to be sharing our newest machinery with Cereals’ visitors before anyone else.”
John Deere
John Deere’s R4050i will be making its first appearance in this year’s Sprays & Sprayers arena. The R4050i has a 5000-litre spray tank and a lightweight boom made of carbon fibre – removing around 800kg from the rear of the machine and improving weight distribution, explains Mark James, crop care product marketing manager at John Deere. “Able to spray widths of 18m or 36m, the high-performance spray boom is considerably lighter than steel or aluminium designs. However, the carbon fibre is around 5.5 times stronger than steel and is able to flex, which relieves the boom structure from the stress that can cause fractures in metal booms.
“The boom is specially designed to withstand the high dynamic loads created at high application speeds of 20 to 30kph, even with very wide booms.”
Sands Agricultural Machinery
Sands Agricultural Machinery is set to demonstrate the new lightweight 3000 Horizon. The lightest and the most compact model in the Horizon range the 3000 still offers high spraying outputs, quality and reliability.
The model benefits from a unique Panoramic cab, featuring the latest category 4 filtration. Comfort, visibility, build quality and ergonomics are to the highest standard and the low noise levels take operator wellbeing to the next stage.
The Horizon 3000 has replaced the Vision 3000 and carries on its ability to offer a high capacity machine at a relatively low overall weight. This allows it to tread lightly in damper conditions while still giving the performance required when spraying demands are at their highest.
