Glynllifon to host NSA Welsh Sheep 2019

Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor Glynllifon, near Caernarfon will be the setting for NSA Welsh Sheep 2019 to be held on Tuesday 21st May.

The venue will give visitors the opportunity to update on all the latest news, views and technical innovation against a compelling historic backdrop.

The venue is a 700 acre lowland farm consisting of 400 acres of farm land and 300 acres of woodland run as a commercial enterprise. Five hundred youngsters, aged between 15 and 18, study for Level 1, 2 and 3 in agriculture, agricultural engineering, forestry and conservation, animal management and veterinary nursing.

The livestock consisits of 150 crossbred dairy cows which calf in the autumn. 50 suckler beef cows Stabiliser and Welsh Black outwintered since 2014 on kale and 600 commerical Lleyn ewes.

The stock are run on a grass and forage based sytems looking to maximise production off grass and brassicas. Cutting silage three to four times a year.

The whole farm is in the Glastir Advance agri environment scheme and woodland in the Glastir woodland scheme.

College farm used extensively for developing skills and knowledge of the new generation of Land Managers and Food Producers.

NSA Cymru/Wales Event organiser Helen Roberts says it’s the first time the event has been held at an agricultural college and she’s delighted to make the most of the opportunities the venue offers.

Farm Manager Rhodri Manod Owen says the college has always been keenly involved in NSA Welsh Sheep and college students look forward to immersing themselves in all aspects of the event.
