Kuhn has added a 5.65 metre working width model to its intermediate
range of Discover heavy cultivation and straw incorporation disc
harrows.
The XM 48 is suitable for tractors in the 85 – 160 hp range
and extends at the top end a range first launched in 2000 that
now includes six models, starting with the 3.4 (28-disc) metre
XM 28.
The Discover XM range moves away from traditional disc harrow
design by incorporating a large section central beam from which
the disc trains and undercarriage components are supported.
Constructed of 300mm x 300mm box section steel, the central beam
design is the key to the Discover’s strength and rigidity.
It is a simple concept, giving great accessibility and clear visibility
across the working width of the machine.
Standard discs are 660mm (710mm optional), with the arrangement
of notched or plain design being adjustable, depending upon the
level of tillage intensity, mixing and penetration required.
Front discs are offset, to create an even tillage across the width
of the machine. Rear discs are set parallel, for maximum stability
in work. Four rear outridger discs ensure a uniform finish.
Discs are assembled with twin conical bearings, which are double
sealed and fitted with greasers, with overall design suited to
intensive use under heavy load.
The undercarriage features two centrally positioned wheels giving
good weight distribution, and disc trains fold into a transport
position of 2.45 metres.
The Discover XM range is hydraulically folding as standard, and
offers three hitch-up positions to allow the best height for traction.
Standard price of the 48-disc XM 48 is £17,532. Kuhn’s
heavier Discover XL disc harrow range is suited to tractors from
160 – 260hp and includes four models up to 7 metres.
