Charolais peaked at 3,800gns in Carlisle on Wednesday 28 June at
the breed society’s official sale of bulls and unhaltered females.
Thrunton Vendor - 3800gns

Sale leader at 3,800gns was Thrunton Vendor, an 18 month
old with a Beef Value within the breed’s top 10% at CH32.
Bred by the Campbell family, Ian and John, and their father,
Colin of Thrunton, Alnwick, Vendor was by the 24,000gns Perth
supremo, Mowbraypark Orlando and out of a homebred cow. He sold
to AJ MacGregor, Ecclefechan, Lockerbie.
Next to sell at 3,000gns was the Welsh bred Maerdy Varela, a
19 month old by De Crespigny Dunkirk and out of a Maerdy Grimaldi
sired home bred cow. Offered by Flintshire based vet, Esmor Evans,
Mold, Varela sold to W Holloway, Kirkhill, Preston.
A bid of 1,800gns secured Thornham Alcatraz for A Vaughan, Brampton.
This 14 month old youngster by Maerdy Polarbear was bred by GS
Eggleston, Matfen, Newcastle.
Heading the female section were two entries each bid to 1,700gns.
First to go was a cow and calf pair from J and T Holliday, Hunsonby,
Penrith to KR Williams who had made a 900 mile round trip to
the centre from Camborne, Cornwall. Hunsonby Shine, was a five
year old Killadeas Jack daughter, and out of the champion Cliftonpark
Maeve, while her March born heifer, Hunsonby Belinda was by Doonally
New. The same buyer also paid 900gns for the two year old heifer,
Hunsonby Valerie, an Oscar daughter and out of an Edenhurst bred
dam.
Last entry in the catalogue but not least was Maerdy Vowel,
a rising two year old maiden by Maerdy Sinndar from Esmor Evans.
She attracted the second 1,700gns bid from W and B Nichol, Newcastleton,
Roxburghshire.
