Skipton again proves fertile ground for Stoney store lambs

Skipton Auction Mart once more proved a happy hunting ground for Pateley Bridge father-and-son farmers Joe and Trevor Stoney when they achieved back-to-back championship successes at the September show and sale of almost 7,500 store lambs at Craven Cattle Marts’ Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Sept 6).

The Stoneys, of White Wood Farm, again sent out the victorious 40-strong pen in the prize show for Masham wethers, judged by Bob Lloyd, of Abergele in North Wales, to retain the Craven Cattle Marts Trophy and I’Anson Shield.

The title winners sold for the joint top price of £36 per head, equalled by the second prize pen from JM Wilson & Sons, of Beckwithshaw. JK Wilson, of Blubberhouses, had the third prize pen, which made £34 each.

Skipton Auction Mart general manager Jeremy Eaton said there was particular demand for long keep lambs.
