Charolais met a flying trade at the NI Charolais Club’s official autumn show and sale in Dungannon, on Friday 3 November with bulls peaking at 8,400gns and females selling to 8,000gns.

Greyoak Able, the reserve male champion at 8,400gns

Sale leader at 8,400gns was the reserve male champion, Greyoak Able CH28 from Paul and Ethne McBrien, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh. This June 2005 born entry was by Oldstone Egbert son, out of a Simpsons Gregg daughter and he qualified for the NI Elite Beef Quality Initiative (BQI). He sold to M Maxwell, Dungiven.

A bid of 8,000gns was made for the female and overall reserve supreme champion, Coolnaslee Violet, from Gilbert Crawford, Maghera. Violet was no stranger to the ring having taken last year’s Dectomax junior female championship, and she headed her class this season at the Balmoral and the NI National Charolais Show, Fintona. Sired by Allanfauld Superscot, she was out of a dam by Brampton Justwilliam and was sold in calf to Oscar Sydney. The buyer was Jim Wilson, Newry.

Coolnaslee Violet, the female and overall reserve supreme champion, made 8,000gns

The junior male and overall champion, Corryglass Avenger CH29 from Brian Phair, Enniskillen, commanded a bid of 5,900gns from M Armstrong, Garvagh. He was by Doonally New and out of a Brampton Embark daughter. Another Doonally New son from the same breeder, this time Corryglass Active, made 4,200gns to W. Fleming Magherafelt.

Adrian Richardson, Maguiresbridge offered Hillviewfarm Active CH33, another Elite BQI qualifier, at 4,800gns to Charles Giles, Omagh. He was by Brampton Embark and out of a cow going back to Simpsons Gregg.

Paul Grant, Newry offered a couple of Doonally New sons with his best Shanroe Arabian CH37 making 4,400gns to Edward Carson, Downpatrick while Shanroe Aragon was knocked down sold for 3,800gns to Brian Rodgers, Kilkeel.

Females met a strong demand throughout. Among the leading entries at 5,000gns was Kenneth Veitch’s (Lisbellaw, County Fermanagh) reserve female champion, Drumlone Ambition. Sired by Moorlough Palo, she was knocked down sold to P White, Garvagh.

Sale topper at 4,700gns from Ballymena based John Currie’s consignment was Tullygarley Tina, a Bassett Judge daughter offered with her heifer at foot by the 25,000gns Goldies Unbeatable. The pair went to John McMordie, Ballygowan.

Gordon Cutler, Enniskillen went to 4,000gns for John Erskine’s (Killylea) Doonally New daughter, Dartonhall Adore. Shortly afterwards the same buyer paid 3,000gns for Hillviewfarm Anne, a Brampton Embark daughter from Adrian Richardson, Maguiresbridge.

Averages: 37 bulls £2,506.35; 19 females £2,608.20.
