The three key elements to track and improve the profitability
of a pig enterprise have been brought together on a unique
new web-based service - the first of its type in the world.
The site is a joint venture by the Red Meat Industry Forum
(RMIF) and the British Pig Executive (BPEX).
It pulls together the financial and physical performance
data from the RMIF benchmarking clubs and the health data
from the BPEX run British Pig Health Scheme.
RMIF Project Manager Clare Wise said: "This is an
exciting development for producers. For the first time
they will have easy access to all the information they
need to improve their profitability which will be invaluable.
It has been designed to be user-friendly to make it as
easy as possible for producers to get the greatest value
out of it."
BPEX Strategy Co-ordinator Andrew Knowles said: "The
BPHS data allows members to identify sub-clinical disease
before it is evident on the farm. This initiative will,
for the first time, help identify the cost of health conditions
on a farm's bottom line as well as physical performance."
The hosting website is www.primenumbers.co.uk where, once
you are logged on as a user, you will be able to identify
your unit from your slap mark and access your herd health
status. The site is fully confidential with a gatekeeper
preventing information getting into the wrong hands.
