Mosston Muir Aberdeen Angus Herd Of The Year
31/01/07

Forfar butcher and Aberdeen-Angus breeder, Tom Rennie, has received a boost on the eve of the Perth bull sales with confirmation that his 20-cow Mosston Muir herd at Guthrie, Forfar, Angus, has won the Walkers Shortbread Rosebowl for Aberdeen-Angus Show Herd of the Year for a fourth time in competition with herds from throughout the UK. Mr Rennie previously won the award in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

The award is based on points gained for exhibitor-bred cattle at four national shows –Royal Highland, Royal, Royal Welsh and the National Aberdeen-Angus Show at Westmorland – and six regional shows. The qualifying shows last year were Ayr, Banchory, Black Isle and West Fife in Scotland and Great Yorkshire and New Forest in England.

The herd’s successes during 2006 included the junior and reserve male championship at the Royal Show with the yearling bull, Mosston Muir Bold Matador, by Rawburn Transformer, and championships at Banchory, Central and West Fife, and Drymen with the three year old cow, Mosston Muir  Jennifer Erica, by Mosston Muir Lord Rennie.

The competition is sponsored by Walkers Shortbread Ltd of Aberlour, Banffshire, and the winner receives a cash prize of £250, as well as a handsome inscribed rosebowl. The presentation will be made at the annual dinner of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society at Perth on Monday (February 5).

Mr Rennie has seven bulls and four heifers entered for Perth.
