EBLEX has scored a direct hit with its new herd notebook for beef
producers. The 80-page pocket size herd recording booklet has fulfilled
the EBLEX Better Returns Programme’s (BRP) brief to supply
producers with advice and information which is practical and adds
real value.
“It is the most useful booklet I have received in a long time,” says
Somerset beef producer Jess Nicholls. “It literally means that
I have my herd in my pocket. The notebook is packed with useful information
on feeding, gestation and marketing and has pages to record everything
about my cattle from purchases, bulling and calving to weight records
and sales.
“I did use a blank A5 notebook with a piece of duct tape to
strengthen the spine until I received this notebook from EBLEX. As
soon as I tried it I ordered two more - one for my nephew who works
with me so he can keep his records in order and another just as a
spare for me”, said Mr Nicholls of L. F. Nicholls and Sons
of Sweetnap Farm, Witham Friary, Frome.
“I am very pleased that overall EBLEX is becoming more prominent
and is filling a gap in technical advice for information on beef production
and marketing,” said Mr Nicholls who finishes 400 head of beef
cattle a year currently going to Southern Counties and has a suckler
herd.
Neil Wharton, UK Beef Director of Genus Breeding, is on the EBLEX
BRP Steering Group.
“I am pleased, but not surprised, that the response to the
herd notebook has been favourable,” he said. “Whether
producers use it in part or in full, it is a very handy tool to keep
track and manage the daily happenings in your herd.”
EBLEX has distributed 5000 free copies of the ‘Herd notebook – Better
records for better returns’ to beef producers who have
signed up to the Beef BRP and is currently reprinting to meet further
demand. For a copy or to sign up for the Beef BRP - contact Heather
Stewart on 0870 241 8829 or email brp@eblex.org.uk.
EBLEX Beef BRP is free for all English beef and dairy farmers. There
are no costs, red tape or obligations attached to signing up. Those
who sign up will simply receive details of BRP publications and events
local to them.
