The Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, Christianne Glossop, is to open NSA Welsh Sheep 2007. Christanne has a particular interest in breeding techniques and is responsible for animal health and welfare policy and strategy in Wales. She is likely to find the event a stimulating and informative occasion. The Turner family who are hosting the event run a traditional system in a spectacular setting which commands view extending far into Oxfordshire and Devon as well as Mid Wales. A hundred trade stands have been booked and forty sheep breeds will be on display.

There will also be a sheep dog trial and sale, a full programme of seminars and competitions as well as the Open Stock Judging Competition, for which the prize is a galvanised lamb weigher given by David Ritchie (Implements) Ltd. Welsh Sheep will also host the Inter College and YFC competition which requires teams of young people to identify breeds of sheep from their fleeces, identify farm/veterinary objects, judge sheep according to their EBVs, and grade carcasses. Entries have to be received by 1 May 2007 with the competition limited to the first 15 teams to apply. One member of each team of three should be under 21 on 1 May 2007. There is a £250 first prize, with a trophy.

Welsh Sheep's main sponsor is HCC.
