The regional artisan charm of Lancashire cheese making and its versatility in cooking and on the cheese board is portrayed on its new web site launched this spring. Developed by the Lancashire Cheeemakers Association, with funding from the Milk Development Council, the new web site is part of a campaign to promote the cheese and increase sales.

Found at www.lancashirecheese.com, visitors to the site can read a potted history and find out about the seven family owned businesses who produce a range of Lancashire cheeses within a five mile radius in the Forest of Bowland.

“Since we started promoting the cheese as a group in 2005, and with MDC funding we have seen sales grow by 5%” says Lancashire Cheesemakers’ co-ordinator Michael Lough.

“The web site will play a big part in our promotions. We’ve made it as comprehensive as possible by listing the types of cheeses – creamy, crumbly and tasty – and their suitability to different menus, but without losing any of its unique and individual qualities. You can find out where to buy it from the web site then try out some of the recipes designed by Michelin starred and Lancashire-based chef; Nigel Howarth.”

Full details of Lancashire Cheesemakers’ promotions will be added to the new web site, including its cheese on toast bus tour planned in the region this summer.
