| 01/06/07 The British Charolais Cattle Society is to host more than 30 international
delegates from 11 major beef producing countries at the World Charolais
Technical Conference, to be staged in Scotland later this month. The week long event which will focus on marketing and promoting
Charolais cattle, commences on 17 June and will be chaired by International
Charolais president, Murray Lyle, of Mid Cambushinne, Dunblane, Perth. The programme includes a visit to the Moredun Research Institute
where technical papers will be given by SAC's Prof Geoff Simm, Igenity's
Nigel Otter, QMS's Laurent Vernet, and Derbyshire suckled calf producer,
Simon Frost along with presentations by delegates on how Charolais
cattle are promoted in their respective countries. The delegation will go on to visit the British Charolais Cattle
Society's pure-bred Charolais herd on trial at SAC Bush where Igenity
has DNA tested the calves to identify performance and meat eating
quality traits. The visitors will also take some of Scotland's leading
integrated suckler herds using Charolais as the terminal sire, before
the event culminates around the Charolais judging ring at the Royal
Highland Show where 120 head have been entered, the highest number
this century. "We are delighted to stage this prestigious event in Scotland," says
Mr Lyle. "We are providing an opportunity for leading members
of the Charolais International herdbook to share ideas, exchange
information and maintain those vital communications to enable Charolais
to be further promoted and positioned as the world's leading Continental
beef sire." The event will also feature the annual general meeting of Charolais
International, an umbrella body comprising more than 20 affiliated
countries, designed to facilitate information transfer and further
develop genetic progress. "Charolais International is proving
to be a practical vehicle which meets biannually to discuss the breed's
latest genetic progress and further its development," adds Mr
Lyle. Carlisle Charolais peak at 17,000gns
