HRH The Countess of Wessex

Managing Director of BCPC Chris Todd, presented both HRH The Countess of Wessex, president of the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) and HRH The Duke of Gloucester, with a set of BCPC's Beginners' Life Science Series. Mr Todd explained that there was a major gap in the educational publications market to satisfy the Key Stage 1 Curriculum for Science "Life Processes and Living Things".

BCPC has therefore invested in the research, writing, illustration and production of a series of five story books for primary school teachers and children covering all topics in the National Curriculum for Science, Key Stage 1; 5-7 years.  The books focus on each of the five main topics listed in the Key Stage1 module Sc 2 Life Processes and Living Things, i.e. Life Processes are the key focus of Katie's Kitten, Humans and other Animals are covered in Jack's Amazing Animals, Green Plants are considered in Hannah's Horse Chestnut,
Human Nutrition and Health are the focus of Trevor's Magic Trolley, whilst Living Things and their Environment are explained in William's Wild Garden

Headed by author and illustrator Katharine Porter, a practicing vet, the books have been compiled by a team with a unique range of scientific and educational expertise in biological, ecological and veterinary science, speech and language therapy, and education.
