Case IH Rolls Out New Round Balers
27/11/07

RACINE, Wis. - Already prized for their ability to produce dense, uniform, round hay bales in the toughest conditions, the Case IH line of round balers has been upgraded and improved for 2008.

"We've engineered several significant design changes to make our new RB 4 Series round balers even stronger and more durable," says Steve Smith, Case IH marketing manager for hay tools.

In 2008, five Case IH RB 4 Series round baler models will be available:

RB444
- 4' tall by 4' wide bales
RB454
- 4' tall by 5' wide bales
RB464
- 4' tall by 6' wide bales

Improvements to the balers include stronger pickup tines. "The tines now are manufactured using a shotpeened process, doubling their durability," says Smith. "And the hitch has been upgraded to a one-piece, welded design that is considerably stronger."

Case IH engineers also modified the bale forming rolls. "We've replaced two dimpled rolls with two formed-ribbed rolls, which are heavier steel, for longer life and greater durability. These formed-ribbed rolls also improve the core formation of the bale in tough conditions," Smith adds.

In addition, the mesh wrap system has been simplified. "We eliminated one roll, to improve mesh feeding," Smith continues. "We've also improved the mesh wrap duckbill. It now has opposing sawteeth to help the mesh spread faster."

Some productivity features of the Case IH round balers haven't changed. "We still deliver mesh wrap from the front of the baler," he explains. "So there's a shorter distance from the mesh wrap roll until it's on the bale. The other benefit is that it gives operators visual confirmation. You can see the mesh wrap in the cabinet, and see that it's going onto the bale."

Also remaining is the proven combination of rolls in the front and belts in the back of Case IH RB 4 Series round balers. "The rolls and belts work together to produce the heavy, solid, square-shouldered bales that Case IH balers are known for," says Smith.
