‘Fell Gather – a Celebration of Lakeland Food & Farming’ is being organised by Cumbria Farmer Network, in conjunction with The National Trust and will be held on Saturday 14 June 2008, hosted by Mitchells Auction Company at Lakeland Livestock Centre, Cockermouth.

The overall concept of the event to educate children and the general public about local and sustainable food production, coincides with the national Year of Food and Farming.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see livestock at close quarters, the various stages of food production, with demonstrations around milk, cheese, ice cream alongside the preparation of meats and rural crops and crafts.

In support, a host of food and agricultural related businesses will provide an overall flavour of how the countryside works in conjunction with its end products.

Participation by Cumbrian based business in a local produce market will reflect the last link in the chain of food production and how it is made available to the consumer.

Cumbria Farmer Network, is a farmer owned not-for-profit company, which aims to maximise rural income via food production and other activity, to support, inform and educate and to raise the profile of Cumbrian farming.

Cumbria Farmer Network chairman will Rawling said: “We have planned this event as part of an ongoing Cumbria Farmer Network project to promote agricultural produce and the environmental benefit of farming to the community. We hope local businesses involved with farming and its produce will support our effort and benefit from it.”
