30/06/08

Harrison and Hetherington this week announced that the 22nd Borderway Black and White Sale will be held at Carlisle on Saturday 29th November 2008. “Borderway Sale Centre again plays host to Europe’s most prestigious annual dairy cattle sale and since its inception the event has generated in excess of 5million pounds of revenue for British dairy farmers. Last year’s event averaged 3,900gns and attracted potential buyers from as far afield as Spain, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Germany, Canada and the US. We are pleased to again offer the opportunity to purchase elite animals sourced from many of the world’s greatest cow families.

“The Black and White Sale is an established highlight within the UK farming calendar and we look forward to welcoming vendors and potential buyers to Borderway Sale Centre for this spectacular event. Our popular sale format again features a parade of sale animals on Friday evening and this provides prospective purchasers with the opportunity to view animals at close hand. The parade will be followed by a buffet supper that includes a selection of wines and locally produced cheese,” he says.

One of the headliner animals already entered in the sale is a Braedale Goldwyn daughter of the 2007 UK National Holstein Show Grand Champion, Carhall Lyster Elizabeth EX. The award winning show animal has been nominated for the 2007 All-Britain Junior Second Calved Cow class and is bred and owned by father and son, Ian and Mark Mallinson, Armathwaite, Carlisle.

Lyster Elizabeth has already bred a National Holstein Show Champion, Carhall Jordan Elizabeth, when dam and daughter received the unique distinction of being awarded the Senior and Junior 2007 UK Championship rosettes at Bingley Hall, Staffordshire. Jordan Elizabeth has also been nominated for the 2007 All-Britain Heifer Calf award and is a third consecutive generation champion animal. The sale of her Goldwyn maternal-sister is therefore expected to create huge interest states Glyn Lucas.

“Goldwyn is siring tremendous show winning progeny and any daughter being offered for sale from a UK National Holstein Show Champion will generate immense interest. We are aiming to offer 80 to 100 elite pedigree animals and anticipate several Red and White Holstein and Jersey heifers again being featured as part of the sale. We therefore urge vendors to contact our pedigree department as soon as possible with details of potential sale entries,” he concluded.

Harrison and Hetherington Ltd is Europe’s leading livestock marketing company. The Carlisle-based business enterprise market over 800,000 head of livestock per-annum and has an annually turnover of 80million pounds. The company’s cattle marketing division forms part of Harrison and Hetherington Group plc that offers an integrated finance, insurance, quota, motor vehicle as well as, land and estate agency service.
