Bailea Catkin at 22,000gns Gets 2009 Limousin Sales Off to Flying Start! 23/01/09

The fourth Annual sale of heifers from the Bailea Limousin herd of father and son Brian and Matthew Jones, Senny, Sennybridge, Brecon, Powys got the 2009 Limousin Sales calendar off to a cracking start as lot 63 Bailea Catkin went under the hammer for 22,000gns.

Catkin is an August 2008 born daughter of the noted French sire Requin who sired the 50,000gns Limousin Female World record priced Bailea Umandy. Bailea Catkin’s dam is the outstanding Bailea Izbicki, who recently produced her twelfth naturally born calf. Purchasing the top price was the Ironstone pedigree herd of Smiths Of Bloxham, Newlands Farm, Milton Road, Bloxham, Banbury, Oxon. Prolific purchasers in recent sale years, Smiths of Bloxham purchased four of the top five prices from the Bailea offering.

At 6,000gns was lot 35, Bailea Crazychick, a June 2007 born Salomon daughter and out of the Greensons Gigolo sired dam, Bailea Nightowl. Bailea Nightowl (dam) is the mother of Bailea Spunkie, sold Carlisle 2003 for 22,500gns. Crazychick was also purchased by Smiths of Bloxham.

Of the 80 catalogued entries of bulling and maiden heifers from the Bailea consignment, lot 80 was next best at 5,200gns. Another by Salomon and this time out of the dam Bailea Songbird, Bailea Cherish was April 2007 born. This animal was purchased by Nether Hall Farm Ltd, Nether Hall, Mansergh, Kirkby Lonsdale, Carnforth for their Netherhall pedigree herd.

Lot 14 Bailea Calypso 5,000gns by Rocky and out of the Greensons Gigolo daughter, Bailea Nifty also joined the Smiths of Bloxham herd.

Lot 7 was the top priced in-calf heifer from the Clury consignment on behalf of WF Cruikshank & sons, Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge, Inverness. Clury Bodica is May 2006 and by the sire Snoopy and out of Clury Ruby. She made 4900gns when selling to JG Evans, Ty Cerrig, Rhydymain, Dolgellau, Gwynedd.
