Longhorn 12 Volt Sheep Shearing Championship

Farmers and sheep shearers will be gathering to compete in the inaugural Longhorn 12 volt Sheep Shearing Championship to be staged at NSA North Sheep 2009, the industry’s biennial event this year to be held at Laund Farm, Chipping, Preston on Wednesday 3 June.

The venture which is designed to mark the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the Longhorn 12 volt machine, the first battery operated equipment of its kind is being organized and sponsored by Horner Shearing, of Clitheroe, Lancashire who have since supplied over 6,000 Longhorn machines to farms in the UK and overseas.

“Sheep shearing is a fast and furious spectacle which provides interest to a wide audience,” comments NSA North Sheep chairman, John Geldard. “Apart from offering shearers the opportunity to promote their skills and sheep handling excellence, the competition also provides those with less experience a chance to learn and make subsequent progress.”
