Record Entries for National All Breeds Show

Holstein UK has reported record entries for the National All Breeds Show, which promises to turn this event into the major national spectacle the breed society had sought to create.

With approaching 500 head of dairy cattle booked from over 100 different exhibitors representing six dairy breeds, the event is expected to be a genuine first in scale for the dairy breeding industry and draw visitors with an interest in every breed.

Taking part in the classes will be Ayrshires, Brown Swiss, Guernseys, Holsteins, Jerseys and Shorthorns, and with trade stand bookings at the show’s maximum capacity there’ll be a plenty to see and do throughout the two-day event.

With a record 13 livestock exhibitors from Scotland, 13 from Wales and the remainder from English counties from Cornwall to Cumbria, the geographical spread will add further interest and provide the opportunity to catch up with friends from every region.

“The National Holstein Show on which this new event has been based has always invigorated the dairy breeding industry at this time of year and the new National All Breeds Show – which takes place at the NAC, Stoneleigh on 16 and 17 February – is expected to do the same,” said Greg Ward from Holstein UK.

“A particular attraction to exhibitors has been the announcement that the Dairy Burke Trophy, the traditional pairs title awarded at previous Royal Shows, will be presented at the event, and this is sure to be keenly contested by every breed.

“And with the re-introduction of the Total Merit Award we’ll also be recognising the cows that perform in the parlour all year round.”

“We’re really excited by the prospect of the event,” said Roger Trewhella from the Jersey Cattle Society, whose members will be strongly represented at the show. “It’s a great out-of-season opportunity and we’re delighted all breeds can help the event grow.”
