An initial 3-year funding package of £120k has been awarded by the Scottish Government, to develop and grow farmers’ markets around the country, and this has enabled the appointment of a National Development Officer

A further £97k has been made available to support the farmers’ market sector with a Support Coordinator’s post, access to marketing research services and funding to assist the sector to promote itself more effectively. The Support Coordinator will provide advice and support to individual farmers’ markets at an operational level and deliver a communication and promotional strategy for the wider sector. SAC’s Food Marketing Team will help to devise and lead the marketing strategy for the partnership, and deliver the market research component and providing support for training for producers.

SAC Senior Food Marketing Consultant David Lamb is a Director of the Scottish Association of Farmers' Markets. He will be speaking at a seminar in the Barn and Bushel at Thainstone Mart, Inverurie on 25th March where the role of the new partnership will be explained to local producers. There will be additional information on promotion, trends and developments and a development workshop. The event is hosted by Aberdeenshire Council in conjunction with SAOS.

Book your place at the seminar.
