It was a day of celebration for Alan and Naomi Morrison, Maguiresbridge, as not only did they scoop both the male and female championships, they took the top priced slots for both their champions.

Their sale leader and champion male was Dalriada Thadeus H549, a September 2008-born son of Nakkeg Nord 913, he is out of Dalrene Cruz 11F daughter Dalriada Tadhall C168. Having stood yearling male champion at the 2009 calf show, Thadeus was tapped out to take the championship at Dungannon by judge and society senior vice president Albert De Cogan and later sold for the day’s top price of 4000gns to David Torrens, Carvagh, Co Londonderry.

Next highest price was the third prize Railview Province H081 from Marcus and Norman Rutledge, Omagh. Born in July 2008, Province is by Netherton Eastern Cruz and is out of the Maine Dragon daughter Railview Penny B414. He sold to A Downard, Markethill, Co Armagh for 2700gns.

Selling for 2000gns was the first prize Skerrybrooke Pride H556, an April 2008-born bull from Co Tyrone-based Robert Johnston. By Rawburn Transformer and out of Old Glenort Peggy D891, which is by Gigginstown The Conqueror, he sold to Alex Gordon, Five Mile Town, Co Tyrone.

Just shy of that price tag, at 1900gns, was the second prize Cavanbellaghy Elvis H527 from Robert Steenson, Co Armagh. Born in September 2008, Elvis is a son of Liss Best Man D544 out of the Galcantray Preditor V9 daughter Cavanbellaghy Erica B954. He sold to S and H Cleland, Downpatrick, Co Down.

In the female section it was turn of Alan and Naomi Morrison to lead trade again, this time with their female champion Fingerpost Mayflower H503. Bred by Adrian and Sandra Irvine, Mayflower is a May 2008-born daughter of Grangemore Macelix F011 out of a Netherton Eastern Cruz daughter. She sold for 3500gns to Ken Woodside, Islandmagee, Co Antrim.

Next highest was the reserve female champion Hillview Pretty Iris J777 from Co Fermanagh-based Adrian Richardson. Born in April 2009, this Jeremy Eric of Bridgefoot daughter is out of the Castle of Mey Elscot daughter Idvies Proud Irene A060 and sold for 2400gns to Francis and Eugene McGirr, Enniskillen, Co Fermangh, for their Derryraghan herd.

Commenting on the sale, auctioneer Trevor Wyllie said: “Quality Aberdeen-Angus bulls continue to be in great demand at Dungannon, but it is evident those better bred and well fleshed sorts command the top prices. Commercial producers are spending wisely, so it’s vital the right type of bull is brought forward for sale. Demand for females is always strong.”
