No Vacancy signs have gone up at Scotgrass 2010 with all demonstration and exhibition space sold out one month ahead of the all action event, to be held on Tuesday 11 May, at SAC Crichton Royal’s Acrehead Farm, Dumfries.

Roger Lane-Nott, director general of organisers AEA, said: “After the huge success of Scotgrass 2007 we anticipated strong demand and increased availability, as well as adding the new slurry and manure demonstration area and the new Knowledge Transfer Centre. But we have seen a recession busting response from both AEA members, and exhibitors in general, so we are well on-track to deliver a cracking event for farmer and contractors from Scotland, England and Northern Ireland.”
Dr Andy Beardsmore, of event sponsor Ecosyl Products, said: “In these rapidly changing times, when farmers have to deal with fluctuating milk prices and input costs, it is even more important to make the most of home-grown forage.”
SAC’s Dr Dave Roberts agrees. “We must make best use of grassland and high quality silage and I am particularly pleased that at Scotgrass 2010 the efficient use of nutrients to grow grass is being featured alongside silage making equipment.”
In addition to 100 acres of live machinery demonstrations, a new observation platform at the larger silage clamp and essential products on show from commercial exhibitors, the new Knowledge Transfer Centre will feature free technical advice. Participants include SEPA, Quality Meat Scotland, DairyCo, British Grassland Society, Maize Growers Association, SAC and sponsors Ecosyl.
Hugh McClymont, farms manager at SAC Crichton Royal, said: “Grass is now under more focus due to increasing production costs, increasing environmental legislation and improved utilisation of the crop. Visitors to Scotgrass 2010 will also see the latest grass harvesting machinery in action which will demonstrate the many systems of conserving and utilising grass forage. In addition there will be various types of equipment for improved utilisation of farm produced nutrients to grow grass more efficiently.”
