Case IH Focuses on Productivity at Cereals

Improving productivity will be the central theme at Case IH Cereals stand this year. As well as the latest tractor, baler and combine models, the company will also be promoting its Advanced Farming System software and hardware, which aims to improve productivity and reduce costs.

Advanced Farming Systems

Case IH Advanced Farming Systems (AFS) is a modular precision farming system that uses the latest GPS and performance monitoring technology to improve productivity and lower costs. Many models in 2010 Case IH product range are AFS-ready from the factory allowing customers to access this technology easily and cost effectively when they are ready. All 165hp and above Puma tractors now come auto-guidance ready as the standard specification when fitted with electronic remote valves. This makes the fitting of guidance systems even easier and more cost effective.

The AFS display area will present three guidance options;
The Case IH Manual Guidance System provides both a practical and clear light-bar, plus a multi-view LCD screen, indicating the path to follow. Using the DGPS (Digital Global Positioning System), the system memorises the path of an initial track and guides the operator to drive in a parallel pattern for the following tracks.

The Case IH Assisted Guidance system extends the capability of the manual system and uses the output from the DGPS processor to control an electric friction wheel to turn the steering wheel. The system dramatically reduces operator fatigue and distraction, not only avoiding overlap and skips but also adding to the quality of the job. The Case IH Assisted Guidance System can be easily installed on any tractor with power steering, whether new or old.

The sophisticated autopilot Accu-Guide systems are integrated into the tractor or combine. Available from the factory in either ‘system ready’ state or fully fitted, Accu-Guide offers sub-inch repeatable auto-guidance accuracy, yield and moisture mapping through to applications using GPS-controlled documentation and field-specific control of implements and machinery.

Case IH uses a single-interface to ensure a familiar operation from machine to machine. The newest generation of AFS monitors will be on display, including the new AFS Pro 300 which has been designed to integrate into Case IH tractors’ operating system at the most fundamental level. This monitor allows data to be transferred to a USB memory stick, has touch-screen control and new instrument displays including diesel consumption for the area covered as well as many management and reporting functions. A rear-view video camera can also be connected.

A new internet-based service portal for Case IH AFS allows users to find a range of online services and add-on functions for AFS applications, including support and training options, special mapping programs and Google Maps support for extended representation of AFS documentation.

Axial-Flow combines

Case IH’s continued growth in the combine harvester market is thanks to the impressive Axial-Flow 88 Series and 20 Series families of rotary combines. The latest 20 Series machines at Cereals will display the new grain tank configuration, which mirrors that of the mid-range 88 Series with tank capacities of 11,100 litres for the 7120 and 12,300 litres for the 8120 and 9120.

Charles Blessley, Case IH Marketing Manager, puts the market growth down to the quality of the machines, the high work rate and gentle handling of the grain and straw. “Case IH has pioneered rotary combine technology for more than three decades and that knowledge and experience really shows through in this latest generation of machines.

“Customers can see that Case IH offers the complete package for cereal producers from the highly capable Puma, Puma CVX and Magnum tractors, the reliable RBX and LBX balers, to the high-capacity Axial-Flow combines. When customers then integrate the Advanced Farming Systems technology into these machines, they create a world-class farming operation that can boost productivity, revenues and profit,” said Mr Blessley.
