Re-Emergence of Mascol Confirmed in Latest UK Proofs

Globally renowned Holstein sire Mascol has climbed significantly in the UK bull rankings for a second consecutive proof run and – due to increased availability of semen – is now on sale to GB dairy farmers through Bullsemen.com for less than £25/straw.

Mtoto son Mascol, now with over 20,000 second crop daughters across Europe, has risen to £172 PLI in the August proof run, up from £143 PLI in April and £119 PLI in January. According to Bullsemen.com’s managing director Nick Kirby, German-bred Mascol’s significantly improving UK ranking is not just a result of higher number of daughters in his proof, but also due to the later maturing and longer lasting quality of his progeny.

“We are now seeing the true quality of Mascol reflected in his UK proof, and – with the bull producing semen again after a temporary lull – he represents very cost affective access to outstanding Holstein genetics.

“Mascol is a fine example of the suitability of German Holstein breeding for the modern British dairy farmer, with great emphasis on functionality and longevity producing daughters that perform and last.

“The latest proof run includes a number of good examples of German-bred Holsteins rising in the UK rankings. Leif, like Mascol, was tested in large commercial herds, and his milk production is now up to 170kgs in the latest proofs, alongside a £166 PLI. Stylist is another German-bred that has improved greatly in the August proof run. This Steven son now has 503 daughters in 329 herds (up from 166 daughters in 133 herds in April) and as a result his PLI is up to £132 (from £121), his milk is up to 421kg (from 375kg) and his Type Merit is up to +1.87 (from +1.79).”

Mascol is now ranked in the top twenty bulls in the US TPI rankings and shows strong all-round qualities in his latest UK proof. His milk production now stands at +150kg (up from +22kg in April) and he is 1.34 for Type Merit, +0.5 for lifespan and is a somatic cell count improver at -20.
