Mr Alvis brings a comprehensive wealth of practical knowledge and experience to the organization. He is managing director of the family farming business based at Redhill, north Somerset, which includes a 1,000 cow herd and a cheese making operation producing 3,500 tonnes annually. He is a director of Cogent Breeding and Grosvenor Farms and a non executive director of the Royal Bath and West Agricultural Society. He is also the founder of FarmLink Education, an initiative designed to bring school children on to farms.
“I am delighted to be elected RABDF president,” he said. “As a farmer, retailer and processor, I have an awareness of all sides of the food chain and during my term of office I would like to introduce a better understanding and co-operation between each sector.”
“We are looking forward to John’s input,” said RABDF chief executive, Nick Everington. “His comprehensive first hand knowledge and experience in the dairy sector will help drive forward the organisation strategically and benefit all farming businesses.” He added: “Farmers will have the opportunity to meet and talk with him at the forthcoming Dairy Event and Livestock Show at The NEC, Birmingham on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 September.”
