Semex Launches New Beef Range
2010-11-04

It’s all change in the beef range for Semex UK - which has comprehensively revamped its beef sires in conjunction with Norbreck Genetics - a globally renowned genetics company specialising in British Blues.

New bulls from the British Blue, Limousin, Aberdeen Angus, Simmental, Hereford, Welsh Black and Charolais breeds have been introduced, to complement the existing Semex beef range. All the sires have been selected by Semex in partnership with Norbreck Genetics. The bulls have been chosen for their easy calving qualities, their ability to produce high quality, fast growing calves, and for their ability to fit in with the varying demands of dairy and beef farmers – be it the production of calves for sales shortly after birth, or for finishing. The bulls have been “five star assessed” on four qualities - Calving Ease, Growth, Maternal characteristics and Carcase quality – and most have been Meadow Quality approved.

The line-up also includes 'Blue Power Extra', which is a higher-fertility mix of three different British Blues selected for calving ease and shorter gestation periods. All the bulls in the Blue Power Extra range are white, and when crossed to Holsteins produce extremely marketable blue-roan calves.

Willie Tait, Semex UK’s genetics manager, says that the link with Norbreck Genetics means Semex now offers an even better, more diverse range of beef bulls.

“These prestige sires have excellent genetic pedigrees, and have been hand-picked to suit the demands of progressive British dairy and beef farmers looking for attractive returns on beef calves that are born easily, are healthy, grow quickly and provide the potential for securing good profits.”
