Toystory Daughter Leads Moira Holstein Entry at 2,550gns

Trade was fast at Holstein NI’s recent heifer show and sale, held at the Pedigree Sales Arena, Moira.

The champion was Dunadry Greta 29, bred by Robert Shanks, Dunadry. Pictured are Jack and Wallace Shanks, with Paul Dunn, judge; and Colin Purdy, Masons Animal Feeds, sponsors.

Prices reached a ceiling of 2,550gns, paid to Geoffrey Patton, Carrowdore, for Carrowcroft Toystory E Ruby. This Jenny Lou Mrshl Toystory daughter was bred from ten generations of VG and EX dams, and sold giving 37.5 kgs.

This is the second consecutive monthly sale at Moira where Geoffrey Patton topped the trade, and both times with a Toystory daughter.

Two heifers came under the hammer of auctioneer, Michael Taaffe, at 2,520gns each. They included Ards Baxter Danna, brought out by Harry Patton and Sons, Newtownards. Backed by six generations of VG and EX dams, she is currently giving 36 kgs daily.

Colin Purdy, Masons Animal Feeds, sponsor, congratulates Andrew Magowan, Rathfriland, on winning the reserve championship. At the halter of Bannwater New Laucot Nancy 78 is judge, Paul Dunn, Bangor.

Also selling at 2,520gns was Newry Goldrun J Rosalie, exhibited by Jim Stevenson, Kilkeel. This heifer was sired by the home-bred Braedale Goldwyn son, Newry Goldwyn, and is backed by six generations of VG and EX dams. She is yielding 33 kgs per day.

Judge, Paul Dunn from Bangor, awarded the championship ribbons to Dunadry Greta 29, an outstanding Braedale Pagewire daughter shown by Robert Shanks and Sons, from Dunadry. This heifer is giving 36 kgs per day, and sold for 2,450gns.

The reserve champion was Bannwater New Laucot Nancy 78, which sold at 2,500gns for vendor, Andrew Magowan, Rathfriland.
