Breed Society Approval for Three Counties Show
2010-12-14

Nine breed societies have already given their seal of approval to next year’s Three Counties Show at Malvern, by confirming they will stage their national shows at the June event.

The British Blonde, British Simmental, British Charolais, the Murray Grey Beef and Gloucester cattle societies, will join the Ryeland Flock Book Society, the Zwartbles Sheep Association and the British Angora Goat Society at Malvern in 2011.

As an added bonus, the Beltex Sheep Society, which is staging its inaugural English show next year, has also chosen Malvern as its very first venue.

The 2010 Three Counties Show, which was hailed the best for more than a decade earlier on in the year, had waiting lists for livestock and agricultural trade stands and hosted the national shows of the Devon Cattle Breeders’ Society, the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society and the Ryeland Flock Book Society.

It also had increased equine entries, an upturn in advance ticket sales and an increase of 6,000 visitors on 2009.

Show Manager, Doreen Smillie, said she had no doubt that the sad demise of the Royal had given Malvern a boost, but added that improvements to facilities, changes in layout and zoning and an overhaul of showing timetables, had helped to put Malvern firmly back on the agricultural radar.

She said: “3,500 heads of livestock, 460 up on 2009, came to Malvern this year, and for the first time in a decade, we had to bring in additional tentage to house them. We even borrowed cattle stalls from our friends at the Devon County Show!

Encouragingly, livestock exhibitors are now planning their presence at Malvern well in advance, which is extremely gratifying. We are also already in discussion with a handful of other breed societies looking to stage their events here beyond 2011, so hopefully a programme of national breed society shows will become a long-term feature.

It means that we are attracting livestock exhibitors on our own merit, and in terms of providing a platform for showing, we are getting it right. The Show is thriving, and I am confident it will benefit from continued growth in the future.”

The Three Counties Show takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 17, 18 and 19 June 2011 at the Malvern Showground. For tickets, call the Ticket Hotline on 01684 584924 or book online.

New attractions include a Forestry section with pole climbing competitions, a special indoor theatre with a food and fun programme, the Oatlands Pipe Band and the Bold Dog Lings motorcycle display.
