The 23 month old steer from Wragby, Lincolnshire-based Newark market regulars Mr and Mrs Todd tipped the scales at 734kg and sold in the weekly prime auction for 254.5p/kg.

Reserve overall champion was a Limousin cross heifer from Newark Market directors Doug and Rachel Gascoine, Southwell, Nottinghamshire. This one weighed in at 665kg and sold for 269.5p/kg.

The Todds were also successful in the barren cow class, with their 888kg Blonde cross cow taking first place and selling for 249.5p/kg.

Winning the young bull class was Ian Wildgoose, Chesterfield, with a Limousin bull which weighed 660kg and sold for 210.5p/kg.

Commenting on the show and subsequent sale Paul Gentry, Newark Market director and Beef Expo 2011 chief cattle steward said the support for the unhaltered show had been superb from both local and further afield exhibitors. “It’s been a great show of cattle and the prices show just what farmers can achieve by selling through the live ring.”
