Dumfries is Farmers' Market Leader
2011-06-20

Sunday July 3 is the much-anticipated launch of the new Dumfries Farmers' Market, which will run on the first Sunday of every month in the car park at Tarff Town and Country, Lockerbie Road.

Scottish Farmers Markets

The launch of the market is great news for locals and visitors alike, in fact it should become a destination for anyone who is interested in buying some delicious locally produced food and drink and keen to support the local economy.

The market has been set up by a group of 7 committed local producers who want to bring together the very best locally produced food and drink in the region in one venue, and make it a showcase for the food and flavours unique to Dumfries and Galloway.

Sarah Burchell, one of the organisers explains: "Working on this project has been really exciting - it is such a pleasure working with other producers who are all passionately interested in providing great food direct to the customer. Why shop global when you can shop local?"

The market will sell a range of locally produced meats, sausages and pies, cheeses, eggs, fish, home grown vegetables and salads, breads, baking, desserts, ice creams and sorbets, jams and preserves, honey, chocolates, fudge, apple juice, cider, beer and wine.

Everything sold at the market has been produced by the stallholders, who are all keen
to answer any questions and to suggest great ideas about how best to prepare and
enjoy their produce.

With free parking and around 30 stalls on the day, it's a great chance to stock up your
cupboards and freezer with the best Dumfries & Galloway has to offer.
