Andrew Loftus Appointed as MLCSL Independent Board Member

Andrew Loftus has been appointed as an independent board member for the Meat and Livestock Commercial Services Limited (MLCSL), the commercially trading wholly-owned subsidiary of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

His two-year term is effective
from Monday 18 April 2016. The MLCSL is best known for its independent carcase classification process and dressing inspection service to the red meat abattoirs throughout the UK, against which beef, sheep and pig producers are paid deadweight for their stock.

Coming from a cattle breeding and farming family, Andrew Loftus has extensive experience within the agriculture and red meat supply chain. As the Farming Operations Manager of Woodhead Bros, the wholly-owned meat manufacturing subsidiary of Wm Morrison Supermarkets, Andrew was responsible for livestock farming, the procurement policy and supply-chain innovation within the business. His success in this role led to his subsequent appointment as Agricultural Manager for Wm Morrison.

Andrew Loftus - Biography

Andrew Loftus is a law graduate from the University of Birmingham. He studied Agricultural Science at Myerscough College and has a Masters in management and finance. He began his working life in 1997 as a Partner in the family business R.J & D Loftus Farms and still retains a keen interest in the farming and cattle breeding business. Between 2000 and 2005 he embarked on a career as a Market Analyst / M&A Associate for BP PLC in London. Andrew then returned North where he went on to establish and manage the award winning retail food and butchery business, Weeton’s of Harrogate. Following two years as an Adviser for English Food and Farming Partnerships Ltd (EFFP) he was appointed as the Farming Operations Manager at Woodhead Bros (the wholly-owned meat manufacturing subsidiary of Morrisons) before becoming Agriculture Manager for Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC in 2013, where he provided strategic agricultural expertise across six sectors – beef, pork, lamb, poultry, eggs and dairy. He is also a director of McLuff Ltd, the company behind Sellmylivestock.co.uk and Graindex (UK) Ltd.
