A Midlands based young sheep breeder has scooped a major award,
which was competed for internationally, with his Suffolk sheep
flock.

Eighteen year old Tom Cox of Marston, Staffordshire, beat entries
from throughout the UK, Eire and Belgium, to win the Bristol Gold
Cup, with the Tomcroft flock which he established in the year 2000,
while still at school.
Now he will be welcoming sheep breeders from throughout the UK
and beyond to view the flock of some 50 flock ewes at a special
open day and prize giving next Thursday, November 2 at Manor Farm.
“We are really pleased, this is one of the Society’s
top accolades,” says Tom, who has been encouraged by his
parents Steve and Vera Cox, who run a herd of 300 pedigree Holsteins.
Tom recently completed his National diploma in agriculture at Rodbaston
College and has now joined the family farm fulltime. The win completes
a great year where he won the reserve interbreed title at Stafford
County Show; the interbreed Champion at the Shropshire and West
Midland Show and breed champion at Newport. And the great year
has been rounded off with more news this week that his flock has
won the champion flock for Shropshire and Montgomeryshire, for
the second consecutive year.
The view day will commence at 12 noon, with prize giving, when
full results will be announced, at 2pm. All those interested in

Directions – leave the M6 at junction 12 and take the A5
west. At the Bradford Arms pub take the road going north for Wheaton
Aston; there will be signs to the farm from the village of Wheaton
Aston.
