The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 83 prime cattle, 9 young beef bull, 26 otm cattle, 5350 hoggs and 3393 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 22nd March, 2007.

All classes of clean cattle were sharper on the week. Top price of 145.5p for a Belgian Blue heifer from J Crichton, Loughrigg and purchased by C Kirkpatrick. Limousin to 131.5p, 130.5p, 129.5p Corby Castle Estate , 126.5p Slealands, Charolais 134.5p Hallburn. Limousin bullocks 139.5p Hallburn, 138.5p The Gill, 132.5p, 131.5p Hallburn, 130.5p The Gill & Hallburn, 129.5p Slealands, 128.5p The Gill & Slealands. Charolais 135.5p Loughrigg.

Young bulls to 125.5p 123.5p Southlambhill. Charolais 124.5p Floshend.

All classes of otm cows sold at recent rates. Young cows sold to 110.5p for Limousin from Wyliehole. Dairy cows averaged 71.2p and beef cows averaged 74.6p. Friesian cows 74.5p Smalmstown, 72.5p Bleatarn, Hereford 77.5p Flosh End, Limousin 95.5p Mossband House, 90.5p Hardhurst, Angus 80.5p Nettling Flatt. Limousin steers 93.5p Brisco Hill. Top price per head was £681.68 for an Angus steer from Bush of Ewes, Limousin steer £607.75 Brisco Hill, Simmental heifer £592.28 Sceughdyke, Limousin heifer £558.03 Wyliehole. Friesian cow £551 Smalmstown, Hereford cow £581.25 Flosh End, Limousin cow £638.03 Hardhurst.

The prime hoggs met a sharper trade peaking at £69 for Texels from Clerkhill and 152.6p for Beltex from Naddle.

The cast ewes and rams were a smaller show and all buyers were eager as a result with all classes up £5 on the week to average £41.25 overall.
