Longtown Primestock Sale

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 78 prime cattle, 4 young beef bulls, 5472 hoggs and 5406 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 1st March, 2007.

Skipton Christmas prime lambs champions

The overall trade for prime cattle was down by 2p on the week. Top price was a Limousin bullock at 139.5p from J Crichton, Loughrigg and purchased by Messrs Nattrass, Butchers, Carlisle, other Limousins to 131.5p, 129.5p The Gill, 129.5p Hallburn, 128.5p Houghton House.

Belgian Blue heifers from Hallburn sold to 135.5p to W Kirkup, Butcher, Longtown. Limousins to 129.5p Hallburn, 123.5p Mosstower, Blondes 125.5p Mosstower.

Young bulls 121.5p, 115.5p for Limousin from Southlambhill.

The prime hoggs which met the sharpest trade of the week levelling at 116.1p. Top pf £66 for Suffolks from Kilnford Croft with export weights to 152.3p for Beltex from MacTaggart Bros., Criag View. Suffolk x £57.80 Honeypot, £57 East Cliff, Hill Cheviot £54.50, £54.20 Milnholm, Texels £65.50, £64 Craig View, Greyface £56.80, £55.20 Farthing James, £55.20 High Airyolland, Charollais £55.20 Kelmore Hills, Blackface £57 Smalmstown, £52 Dunain Mains, Cheviot x £60 Calla Farm, North Country Cheviot £60, £59.50 Craig View, Swaledale £45.20 Copperthorns, Jacob £45 Tushielaw, Beltex £52.50 Gartnagrenach, Leicester £53.80 Crawthat, Lonks £49.80 Cleuchhead, Dorset £51.20 Westerhouses, Halfbreds £52.80 Sockbridge Hall, Clun £52 Smalmstown.

Lightweight hoggs met a sharp trade peaking at £53 and 155.8p for Beltexs from Miller Hill, Gilsland. A similar show of cast ewes and rams easily maintained last weeks high rates to average £35.12 overall. Top was £76.50 for Texel x ewes from Kilnford Mains, others to £68.50 Newry, £66.50 Redbanks, Suffolks to £69.50 Rumbleton Rigg, £66.50 Kilnford Mains.
