Newhouse Black Colorado

Sired by Greenhaugh Utwo and out of the home-bred dam, Newhouse Teak, Colorado carried a Beef Value of LM+38, placing this August 2007 born bull squarely in the top 1% of the Limousin breed. Greenhaugh Utwo was bred by Keith Stewart, Aberdeenshire and used as the Adams’ stock bull for two years, before he was sold to Christopher Dunphie, Wester Cloquhat, Bridge of Cally, Blairgowrie.

Newhouse Black Colorado went on to lead the day’s prices when he sold for 16,000gns to Mr Eunson who runs an entirely commercial herd at Braebuster, Deerness, Orkney. Putting the Newhouse bull up as Junior Champion and then as Supreme Champion Overall was Mr Grant Laing, Gaich Farm, Grantown-on-Spey, Morayshire who runs the Gaich pedigree herd. Commenting on his Champion, Mr Laing said: “This is a tremendous bull, with great shape and is just what a Limousin should be. Colour is not a factor! He has great muscle all the way through, tremendous width and a great top. When you stood behind him he just had such a wow factor.” Newhouse Black Colorado is the second time Newhouse have had a Perth Limousin Champion from their herd which presently comprises approximately sixty breeding females, twenty of which are black.

Over the previous two years at the Perth February fixture, Greenhaugh Utwo, an SLVL Beef grandson, has demonstrated his commercial worth, siring the second leading price of 12,000gns for Newhouse Black Billy in 2008 and the two top prices in 2007 – the 16,000gns Newhouse Black Angus and the 12,000gns Newhouse Black Alfy.

Newhouse also picked up the day’s second top price of 11,000gns for the classy Newhouse Casino and enjoyed an excellent day’s trade with further bulls at 9,000gns, 8,000gns, 5,500gns and 5,200gns.

Newhouse Casino at 11,000gns is by the herd’s stock bull Kype Vandamme, a Cloughhead Lord son who was purchased at Carlisle for 13,000gns in October 2005, and is out of Newhouse Alice. This August 08 born bull’s figures matched his looks with a Beef Value of LM+40 and a muscle score of +4.90 complemented with a calving value of LM+2C. New owner is Allan Moore Ltd, Drummond, Evanton, Inverness. Newhouse Cavalier, also by Kype Vandamme and this time out of Newhouse Talulla sold for the Adams at 8,000gns. Cavalier has a muscle depth of +5.90 and a Beef Value of LM+39 and heads to R Edward & Sons, 24 Letham Mains, Haddington, East Lothian.

Overall, in a sale dominated by demand from commercial purchasers, eighteen bulls made 5,000gns or over including two over 10,000gns. 84 bulls were sold to an average of £3993, representing a healthy 77% clearance, and gave a total sale gross of £356,938.
