DairyCo is holding a dry cow management meeting on Wednesday 11 November, West Moor Farm, West Harlsey, Northallerton. The meeting will look at how careful management can carry cows through transition smoothly, sustaining fertility and maximising productivity.
“The dairy cow’s dry period is one of the trickiest areas to manage, but if you can get it right it will really help to set her on the right track for a successful lactation,” says DairyCo extension officer Hugh Black who will be running the meeting. “We will look at issues such as feeding, health and disease problems and how to make calving as stress free as possible for the cow.
“These events are a great chance to pick some experts’ minds and find out how other dairy producers are tackling these issues. With careful management and attention to the cow’s condition and nutritional needs farmers can ensure that a cow’s energy balance is kept at a level that sustains both fertility and productivity.”
The meeting will run from 11am-2.30pm, with light lunch included. West Moor Farm, West Harlsey, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, DL6 2DT. To book a place call the DairyCo message line on 02476 478707 or email postcard@dairyco.org.uk.
