Malcolm and Robert Swires landed Craven Dairy Auction title No 14 at the main July show. (Mon, July 19)

The father and son duo, whose commercial dairy herd is based at Haverah Park, Beckwithshaw, Harrogate, are the most prolific championship winners in Craven Dairy Auction history and bagged their latest success with a newly-calven Holstein Friesian heifer giving 32.5 litres.
Her sire, Myersdale Principal, was acquired from Geoff Spence in Northallerton and continues to produce top quality offspring. She has been responsible for several Swires Skipton champions. The July victor, recipient of the BOCM Pauls Dairy Cup, sold for the day’s top price of £2,250 to Martin Jennings, Cowling.
Reserve champion was the first prize newly calven heifer from GB Jennings, of Hill House Farm, South Stainley, Harrogate. Exhibited by Robin Jennings, the second calver is a daughter of Abbeyhouse Pursuit, bred by Robin’s cousin Andrew Jennings, of Jennings Farmers, Fountains, Ripon.
Giving 43 litres, she headed the class prices when joining show judge Aubrey Greenhalgh, Preston, for £2,000, who also paid £1,680 for the first prize and top price in-calf heifer from Robert Parker, Newton-in-Bowland, and £1,980 for the third prize heifer from Raymond and Robert Johnson, Felliscliffe, Harrogate.
In addition, the Johnsons sold a Norwegian Red-cross heifer for £1,900 to Chris Harrison, Elslack, while GB Jennings was also responsible for the second prize newly calven heifer, which joined John Midgley, Luddendenfoot, for £1,880.
The Swires also sent out the second and third prize newly calven cows, the former acquired for £1,880 by Wick Williams, Nantwich, the latter by T&M Green, Wigan, for £1,790.
FA Holmes, Castley, Otley, sold three newly calven heifers to a top of £1,920, this acquired by S Brigg, Slaithwaite. Huddersfield.
Newly calven heifers averaged £1,635, newly calven cows £1,540 and in-calf heifers £1,268. Farmers & Mercantile again co-sponsored the fixture
