Asda have yet again strengthened their portfolio of quality beef bulls being marketed to their BeefLink farmers. New to their line up is the Charolais bull Blelack Colonel, owned by Perthshire-based pedigree and commercial producer Adrian Ivory of Strathisla Farms, Meigle.

Colonel, along with Mr Ivory recently starred in a highly successful pre-Christmas television advertising campaign leading to improved ‘Extra Special’ beef sales at Asda by 250% the following week. He was purchased in February 2009 for 12,000gns and he is the second of Asda’s pedigree bulls to be owned by Mr Ivory.
With a calving value of +13, Colonel’s EBV’s make him an easy calving bull for all cows of various breed types. He was purchased for this highly positive trait and has since left some outstanding cattle in My Ivory’s pedigree Charolais and commercial suckler herds.
Not only is Colonel an easy calving sire, his strong growth rates coupled with a Terminal Sire Index of +33 means he is equally suited to producing top quality cattle ideal for the marketplace.
Explaining why this bull has been singled out by Asda as one to use, Asda’s agricultural development manager Pearce Hughes said: “Colonel’s performance figures and track record of producing quality cattle are just what our beef producers are looking for. He is exceptionally easy calving and has the added bonus of being able to produce good carcass cattle as well.”
Semen from Blelack Colonel is typically £30 per straw, but is available to Asda BeefLink producers priced at £7.50, a 75% discount. To order semen straws Asda Beeflink farmers should contact Catherine Matthews on 07932 032924.
