His second calver, earlier chosen as first prize winner in the newly calven cows class, is by Worldwide Sires’ Regancrest Mr Sam. Giving seven and a half gallons, she joined Geoff Blezard, Ribchester, for £2,100.
Reserve champion was the first prize newly calven heifer from J.S. Walton, Glasshouses, Harrogate, sold for £2,000 to B. Kellett & Son, Bishop Thornton, who also acquired the two top-priced dairy cattle on the day.
These were the second prize cow at £2,320, a second calver from 16-times Craven Dairy Auction champions Malcolm and Robert Swires, of Haverah Park, Beckwithshaw, Harrogate, and a newly calven heifer from Brian Moorhouse, Bell Busk, at £2,220.
Jonathan Caygill, Rylstone, sold his second prize heifer at £2,100 to T & M Green, Wigan. Best of the in-calf heifers again came from John Broadfield, Dewsbury, selling at £1,660 to Wick Williams, Nantwich, Cheshire.
There was a 39-strong entry, with a total of 13 milkers making over £1,900. Newly calven cows averaged £1,835 and newly calven heifers £1,680.
Show judge was Aubrey Greenhalgh, Preston, with TMR feeding system specialists Keenan joining animal feed manufacturer BOCM Pauls as joint sponsors.
