No.2 Goldwyn Son Now Available Sexed
2011-04-28

Hydaways Goldmine EX91, the No.2 UK bred PLI Goldwyn son, is now available sexed from Cogent Breeding Ltd.

Hilhead Goldmine Majik VG86

Hilhead Goldmine Majik VG86
From the ‘Pamela’ family he is a descendant of world-class show cow, Portlea Ned Pamela EX95(5), an outstanding brood cow who, after being awarded Hon Mention All Canadian 5yo 1984, was imported from Canada and went on win the Royal Show and the National Holstein Show.

Sired by breed legend, Braedale Goldwyn, Goldmine is unusual in that he does not transmit the stature and 'ultra-dairy' traits typical of his sire, but breeds the strength and power for which his maternal line is renowned.

Adding 42 daughters to his proof in DairyCo’s April proof run, Goldmine has increased his reliability to 91% significantly improving in his overall type and components.

With +487kgs milk and +0.02% fat, Goldmine considerably exceeds his sire’s production and is one of his highest Goldwyn sons in the world for milk.

Transmitting close to average stature yet with more chest width and body depth than his sire, Goldmine’s early daughters are proving to be exceptionally popular and trouble-free milking animals.

With high type (+1.9TM), locomotion (+1.8) and remarkable fitness traits including -14 for cell counts, +2.6 for daughter fertility, +0.2 for lifespan and +0.6 for calving ease, it’s unsurprising that farmers are content.

Cogent’s record-breaking Crichel Principal EX95 orginates from the same line as Goldmine and demand for this bull could emulate that of his studmate’s. Principal was one of the first UK bulls to make a global impact on the Holstein breed and sired over 50,000 daughters in the UK alone.

Cogent’s Progeny Evaluator, Andy Smith has seen many Goldmine daughters throughout the UK and says: “Typically he would suit profit-driven dairy farmers. From what I have seen daughters have great strength and robustness due to their smoothness over the crops and chine, overall capacity, depth of body and width of muzzle that they carry throughout. Functional and easy to manage, progeny are capable of producing large quantities of milk and getting back in-calf easily.”
