This month saw the unveiling of a brand new multi million pound Exhibition Hall at the Borderway in Carlisle. The state of the art facility is the result of a £1.1 million investment by the region’s leading livestock auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington. And the whole region is set to benefit, the improved facilities will not only be used by the H&H Group, they will also be available for hire by other businesses for their own events.

Originally scheduled to open for the main autumn bull sales, the new facility has in fact been finished ahead of schedule. The project designed to bring the group’s facilities up to date has replaced the existing facilities which were over 30 years old and doubled the floor capacity to 900 square metres. The exhibition hall with its large viewing gallery has a link to the main sales ring and there has also been an expansion and a refurbishment of the restaurant area. The Borderway site has easy access to the main M6 motorway and parking for over 500 vehicles.
David Pritchard Operations Director at Harrison & Hetherington explains, “We are delighted that Carlisle now has a superb modern exhibition facility close to the city centre and the region’s main transport routes. The Borderway now reflects our market position as the North of England and Southern Scotland’s leading organiser of livestock events. The Exhibition centre offers an extremely flexible lay out offering an improved service for all the livestock vendors and purchasers who use the building. Our first major exhibition will be our annual Agri-Expo event in October which attracts customers from all over the country so this is a real opportunity to put Cumbria on the map as centre of excellence.”
He continues, “We already host a number of third party events at Borderway but the improved facilities will allow us to appeal to a wider range of clients both in the region and across the country. By adding to the number of good venues that Carlisle has to offer, we will be able to attract a growing number of events. The prestigious UK Dairy Expo for example has already confirmed that it will be holding its next event at the Borderway in March 2012.”
The H&H Group continues to show strong trading and the Exhibition Hall is one of several large investments that it continues to make in its trading facilities. In addition to the public areas, the building will also provide additional office space for two of its eight core businesses. The growing pedigree department of Harrison & Hetherington are housed on the ground floor with H&H Insurance Brokers on the first floor.
