Skipton Auction Mart Undertakes Major On-site Development
Work is progressing on two major developments at Skipton Auction Mart’s Gargrave Road site.
The headline scheme is a new sales ring complex, involving a complete renewal of the current Lingfields ring in the main body of the mart, which will be replaced by two separate bespoke sale rings, one a dedicated sheep sales ring, the second a calf/stirk sale ring.
This project started in early January and is planned to be completed and ready for use by mid-March, 2018, in readiness for the major Spring sales. It also incorporates a new heating system for winter sales,
The second development, again due for completion this Spring, is the installation of a brand-new double-sided cattle lotting race to improve the speed at which cattle are processed on arrival at the mart, at the same time enhancing safety around this area by featuring non-return gates and self-locking head yokes.
The two schemes maintain the mart’s record of continuing development at its site on the edge of the town.
Recent covering of the livestock loading docks was followed last year by refurbishment of the main sale ring, with improved steelwork to the ringside for cattle sales and added adaptability when altered for sheep sales. In addition, a new tiered standing area was constructed just off the ringside to improve viewing.
Craven Cattle Marts’ livestock sales manager Ted
Ogden explained:
“With the
continued success of sheep and rearing calf sales at Skipton, these new facilities
will provide our customers with an up-to-date, modern and comfortable resource
to trade livestock, with improved sight lines to stock being sold. We will
also have the added capability to hold concurrent sales in each ring.”
General manager Jeremy
Eaton added:
“We all have to adapt and prepare for
the future and that is one of the things we always try to do by improving our
facilities and the offering for both customers and visitors to the mart.”
