NSA Sheep Event Supports Aspiring Young Shepherds

The National Sheep Association is looking forward to joining young shepherds from across the UK displaying their skills and experience as they compete to become champion young handler at the Royal Three Counties Agricultural Show at Malvern, Worcestershire.

NSA Sheep 2018, a leading business-to-business event for sheep farmers, follows hot on the heels of the Royal Three Counties Show, also at the Three Counties Showground, famous for its backdrop against the beautiful Malvern Hills. With shared visions as well as a shared location, the NSA event is proud to support the Three Counties by sponsoring the young handlers’ classes taking place on Friday 15th June and Saturday 16th June.

Looking forward to presenting the skilful young shepherds with their rosettes and prize money at the show are Katie James, NSA Communications Officer, and Henry Dunn, NSA Trustee and Gloucestershire sheep farmer. Katie comments: “The young handlers’ classes are often viewed as a ‘fun’ way to round off showing for the day, but at NSA we recognise the enthusiasm and determination of competitors in these classes. It is a great and encouraging sight to witness and is a further reminder that the future of sheep farming in the UK is in safe hands.”

NSA is committed to encouraging young sheep farmers of the future through the NSA Next Generation programme, which provides education, training and support to young shepherds up to the age of 35.

Next month’s NSA Sheep 2018, taking place on Wednesday 18th July, will feature an area dedicated to the next generation of sheep farmers and include relevant workshops and demonstrations to provide up-to-date knowledge and practical tips to help young shepherds progress in the sheep industry. The event will also include the national finals of the NSA Next Generation Shepherd of the Year competition, seeing 18 young farmers compete for the prestigious title and generous prize money.

NSA Sheep 2018 provides a wealth of technical and industry knowledge for everyone in the sheep sector, whatever their age. Further information at www.sheepevent.org.uk
