Carlisle Continental Cross Heifer Sale
18/03/05

Champion Heifer
Champion Heifer
The UK's leading two day show and sale of continental cross suckled heifer and bullock calves started with the sale of over 1,000 heifers on Friday at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.  The superb quality offering of stock were presented to the largest ringside of buyers who had travelled from all four corners of the UK.  Buyers bid confidently ensuring trade throughout was greater than envisaged.

The pre-sale judging was carried out by Mr Scott Watson of Balhousie, Carnoustie, and catching his eye to win the Overall Heifer Championship was a lovely black heifer from regular consignor Mr Peter Richardson of Sandhills, Keswick.  This heifer, a daughter to the registered Limousin bull Homebyres Safeway and out of a Limousin cross heifer, went on to sell for the leading price of the sale at £2,200 and was successfully bought by Mr Paul Tippetts of Highbridge, Somerset.

The Reserve Champion rosette was presented to another black Limousin cross heifer from JC & SE Little of The Guards, Ireby.  This was a heifer sired by the registered Limousin bull Calrossie Rodin and is full sister to the 1st prize commercial steer, Dapper Dan, shown at the Royal Highland Show 2004.  The heifer was later sold for £1,200 to Ian and Dot Goldie of Greenfield Farm, Cummertrees, Annan.
