Four New Sires Join
Avoncroft Stud
07/03/05
Avoncroft has introduce a new generation of sires from Holland
Genetics that has moved cattle breeding goalposts and rearranged
the PLI rankings after the February proof run. Highlights include
a team of Addison sons and a world-class red carrier.
A bull that will interest both black-and-white and red-and-white
Holstein breeders is newcomer, and the world's highest indexing
red carrier, Delta Canvas RF. He is the leading PLI sire at £98,
has an excellent type profile and is easy calving.
Canvas combines two great cow families. He is by Delta Sparta
RF, from the Tex family at Art-Acres, and out of Delta Canberra,
a VG87 Celsius granddaughter of Delta Esmeralda VG86, the famous
Cleitus daughter out of Walkup Bell Lou Etta VG88.
Canvas daughters are consistent in type and are tall with
wide sloping rumps, as well as having the beautifully veined,
square udders of the Tex family. They also have good feet and
legs, with excellent locomotion.
Delta Canvas RF is available from Avoncroft priced at £35/straw
Two outstanding Addison sons have been added to the Avoncroft
stud and there are now three sons of Addison that are all in
the top 30 PLI list in Avoncroft's active sire line-up. Each
has their own individual qualities, but what they all have
in common is the production strength, quality udders and low
somatic cell counts they inherited from their great sire.
There are very few sons of Addison with high components, but
the number-six PLI sire De Crob Adept, out of a VG85 Ronald
granddaughter of Holim Heidi, is one.
Adept's daughters produce quality milk from quality udders.
His robust, deep-bodied daughters have tremendous width from
front to back and milk with great ease while at the same time
maintaining good condition.
Adept offers the component power of the Heidi cow family combined
with the production strength from Addison to the breed.
De Crob Adept is available from Avoncroft priced at £24/straw.
Producers looking to improve milk-yield would do well to take
a look at Mr Milkmaster (Addison x VG86 Cash) as he is the
breed leader for kilograms of milk.
His sire, Addison, is one of the highest milk bulls in the
world, but Milkmaster has moved the goalposts yet again and
is now in a league of his own at a dazzling +1,529kg. In the
top 20 PLI list at £82, Milkmaster is an easy calving
sire and his daughters are deep-ribbed cows with strong front
ends.
Mr Milkmaster is available from Avoncroft priced at £16/straw.
Another early Addison son who graduated from the November
proofs also fared well in the latest run, moving up in production
to £73PLI. Beverlake Louson,
by Addison and out of a VG88 Jabot daughter from the Lou Etta
cow family, is
a top bull for udders and also a leading sire on udder health.
Beverlake Louson is available from Avoncroft priced at £17/straw.
