Rescheduled BRP lamb
butchery demo at The Fountain Hotel, Hawes
08/03/05
A butchery demonstration for local sheep producers highlighting
the market preference for lean lambs will be the focus of an EBLEX
Better Returns Programme (BRP) Evening Meeting at The Fountain
Hotel, Hawes.
This was postponed due to bad weather in February and will now
go ahead on Thursday 17 March at 7.30 pm, held in association with
Hawes Auction Mart.
Local butcher Nigel Hammond will give a butchery demonstration
to highlight the fat trim from a lamb that matches the main market
demand and an overfat lamb - which can make a difference of around £6.00
to the producer. BRP staff will also highlight how lamb producers
can avoid price penalties for overfat lambs and reduce production
costs.
Chris Lloyd, BRP Project Manager has been delighted at the level
of interest in the series of Evening Meetings. He said "The
meetings we have held over the season have proved very popular
with on average 60 to 70 producers turning up to each one. Producers
find the butchery demonstration particularly fascinating and take
some positive messages away from the evening."
The event will also cover a range of other sheep topics, with
speakers addressing the impact of CAP reform on the English lamb
sector, the new EBLEX Quality Standard Mark, and better breeding
topics. Farmers can also get advice on aspects of their lamb marketing
and pick up their free copies of the BRP's Breeding and Selection
Manuals.
The event is free, to ensure a place contact Sophie Whigham on
