An excellent catalogue of in excess of 450 cattle ensured all
the regular buyers and more besides were in attendance on the day.
The quality of cattle on offer as always was an extremely high
standard and the judge,
Mr Smith, faced a considerable challenge in placing the cattle
on show before him.
The eventual champion on the day was awarded to the first prize,
under 12 months old Limousin heifer from Mr J A Hunter, Brackensghyll
which sold for £510 to the judge, Mr Smith.
The Reserve Championshiip was awarded to Forest Hall Farms, Selside
with a 10 month old, Limousin x steer which sold for £565
again to Mr Smith.
Top price on the day went to a pure Limousin bull from Mr T W
Gorst, Gilpin Farm which sold for £695 to Messrs Lawson,
Sedbergh.
Overall a very successful day can be reported despite one auctioneer
going down and Gary Capstick taking over to full effect. Trade
was maintained throughout the day with only six cattle failing
to sell through the ring and a total of 335 cattle sold.
