A children's competition will link past and present as Brecon Show celebrates the 250th anniversary of its society, the oldest in the UK. Young people coming to the show will be invited to think themselves back to 1755 and recreate the sort of life they would have lived in the Breconshire countryside.
The competition is just one part of a fun filled day promised for Saturday 6th August. There will be the Red Devils Freefall Parachute Display Team and a Mega Mini Stunt Car Display and some of the finest livestock in the country will be on display.
The show society, the Brecknock Agricultural Show Society, is keen to celebrate its ancient associations but also wants to confirm its place as a modern, forward thinking, organisation that can put on as good a day's entertainment as any in the country.
The show will also feature an army presentation team, a mini game fare and country pursuits section, as well as sheep shearing competitions and trotting races. There will be all the traditional features of a major county show.
Today's committee members are following in the footsteps of their forebears in using education to improve the rural lot. The Society has commissioned the Institute of Welsh Affairs to produce a report, the Future of Upland Wales to mark the anniversary. It will be launched in October.
HRH Prince of Wales is Patron of the Society and is taking a keen interest in the celebrations.
Enquiries about the show should be directed to Secretary Janet Vaughan on 07977 586150
